Build capability
Your team knows that funding depends on how well you articulate your work, but writing and refining grant
applications and communicating with impact feels like a muscle that hasn’t had much exercise. Plus, grant
guidelines are notoriously complex and translating work into a strong, competitive proposal takes time when
everyone’s already at capacity juggling delivery, research, and operations. To take the pressure off—and
build some seriously skilled people power—Straight Up offers a range of focused training packages to upskill
your research team.

— What to expect
Workshops:
In a hands-on format, participants will learn about the science of communication, industry engagement, or grant writing and what we know works – and what doesn’t work – well. We’ll turn the theory into practice by applying the theory to each participant’s specific goal and situation. Participants leave the workshop with knowledge, confidence, and a plan for their next event or activity.
Individual support:
Following a workshop, we can provide one-on-one support as participants further develop and finalise their communication, engagement or grant materials, whether that’s a slide deck, poster, leaflet, proposal, or something else.
Presentation practice session:
Practising in front of a friendly and supportive audience is the perfect way to road-test your new communication, engagement, or grant pitching skills.
